Porn Talk

There is a huge amount of porn here, and the collection goes all the way back to the roots of Homegrown Video in 1982. They've separated the content into different sections to help you find what you want to watch.

The main area and what draws must of us here is the section called simply Amateur Videos. Here you'll find all real homemade amateur porn made by and submitted by the members themselves. This is a big section and it really offers everything in terms of sex: solo masturbation, anal sex, group sex and DP, even peeing and things like that.

The next largest area is their Vintage videos section, where you'll find the older stuff dating back to 1982.

The other sections are Pro-Am, where they have videos made by professionals starring amateurs, and Homegrown All Stars which is a quick way to see the highest rated and most requested videos and amateurs.

Tech Talk

Homegrown Video works with a lot of different formats when it comes to downloading and streaming. Mostly they stick to using Windows Media files for the downloads. The best option is a 640x480 screen (2.5 mbits) video that looks great. The others are 480x360 (2.5mbits), 480x360 (1.4 mbits) and 240x180 (<1 mbits).

Videos streamed in Flash look as good as their download counterparts. You can also stream Windows Media files if you'd prefer.

Picture galleries have images of 800x600 pixels or less, and quite a few of the galleries were actually just vid caps.

Older content may not be in the same file formats or quality levels. In fact, quality can vary a bit in all parts of the library, thanks to the content being homemade by amateurs.

Small Talk and Personal Opinion

Homegrown Video is one of those rare sites in online porn that started offline and have successfully made the transition. It's the sort of porn that really takes advantage of what the internet, cheap digital cameras and fast connection speeds has to offer: members and amateurs around the world have never had it so easy. Making and uploading content has never been easier, and accessing the content that others have uploaded is a trivial task.

It is a mega site, and with so much content I really prefer a strong set of browsing tools. Homegrown Video has a decent set to work with. First they are pretty organized, using the categories I brought up in Porn Talk. Second, they let you sort each section further by a category of porn (anal, big tits, etc). If that's not enough you can use their advanced search to do a custom query and layer on any filters you'd like. This lets you do specific searches for scenes that feature big tits PLUS anal PLUS cumshots, for example, by selecting all the types of sex you're looking for in a scene.

One of the best features of the site isn't a feature at all: it's reliable. For more than two decades they've been doing this, and they've never missed a step. In fact, they've only taken bigger and bigger steps over the years, and we can count on that going into the future as well.
